The Reality of Traveling for Weddings
Hey my beautiful readers! ✨
Sometimes people assume that destination brides are somehow different from local brides. In reality, they’re not that different at all. Just like any bride, they hope everything goes smoothly, they feel nervous about their big day, and they can get a little overwhelmed being the center of attention. The entire experience can feel surreal, and my role is always to help bring calm and confidence into the room.
When I travel for destination weddings, I love sharing parts of the journey through my Instagram stories. It’s fun to take people along as I pack my kit, head to the airport, and prepare for wedding day. However, I usually don’t post anything until the end of the day—if I even have the energy to do it.
My biggest priority is always being present for my bride while I work. I might mention what country I’m in, but I avoid sharing my exact location until I’m safely back home—especially if I’m traveling alone. I want to document the experience without compromising privacy or safety.
I also try not to overwhelm my followers with constant content. We all get tired of seeing the same images over and over again. Sometimes I won’t even respond to questions until the next day because my focus during the wedding is exactly where it should be: making sure my bride feels happy, relaxed, and beautiful before I walk away.
Content Is Great… But It’s Not Everything
Of course, content creation is important—especially these days when social media is a huge part of marketing. But sometimes there simply isn’t time to film or take photos.
Maybe the background isn’t ideal.
Maybe the lighting isn’t great.
Maybe the room is busy or chaotic.
You might go into a destination wedding with a vision for what your content will look like, but the reality is that things don’t always go as planned. That’s why it’s important to have a Plan B—or even better, not overthink it at all.
Transparency and authenticity are incredibly important to me. I always try to show my real journey, not just perfectly curated moments.
Sometimes I pack my tripod and never use it. But there is one thing I will never forget: my light. Bad lighting is every makeup artist’s nightmare!
Traveling for weddings can bring unexpected challenges even before you arrive—flight delays, logistics, unfamiliar locations, or things completely outside your control. If you let those things take over your mindset, they can ruin your entire experience.
Instead, I’ve learned to be resilient and go with the flow.
Travel opens your eyes. It builds confidence and teaches you how to pivot when needed.
When It’s Time to Work
Once I’m in the room with my bride, nothing else matters.
Whatever travel stress may have happened earlier disappears. My focus is completely on her experience. After all, the fact that she trusted me enough to fly me to her wedding is something I will always see as an incredible opportunity.
If she ever sees something funny later in my stories, we can laugh about it together—but I never bring negative energy into the room. The wedding morning should feel calm, joyful, and special.
Sometimes I’m just the Makeup Artist — and That’s Perfect
At the end of the day, content is a bonus.
Yes, I need it for marketing. But if something goes wrong during the day, I choose to focus on sharing the positive parts of the experience. And honestly, destination weddings aren’t that different from local weddings.
There can still be:
Noisy rooms
Bad lighting
Messy backgrounds
People arriving late
And there are days when I realize I didn’t film a single thing.
In those moments, I simply tell myself:
“Today, I’m just the makeup artist.”
And I’m perfectly okay with that.
Because as long as I’m delivering my service with passion and professionalism, amazing opportunities can still come from the work alone.
And that will always be the most important part of the journey. 💄✈️
