🌸 How to Choose the Perfect Bridal Makeup Look for Your Skin Tone
Happy Fall, everyone!
Our skin tone is determined by the amount of melanin we have — and choosing makeup that complements it makes all the difference. Did you know the Pantone SkinTone Guide has developed 138 unique shades to help achieve accurate matches in beauty and product development? How fascinating is that!
The closer your foundation and makeup colors are to your natural skin tone, the more flawless your look will be. That’s what inspired this post — to help you choose the perfect bridal makeup for your unique complexion.
It’s interesting because this is a question I don’t get asked often. Most brides bring in an inspiration photo and ask me to recreate that look — which is absolutely fine! In fact, I sometimes recommend it when a bride isn’t sure what style she wants. But as a makeup artist, I always say that understanding your skin is key. The skin truly sets the foundation (literally and figuratively!) for how beautiful your makeup will appear.
So, let’s talk about how to find the perfect bridal makeup for your skin tone.
Understanding Skin Tone and Undertone
While we often describe skin tone as fair, light, medium, or deep, the real magic lies in your undertone — whether it’s cool, warm, or neutral.
Cool Undertones:
If your skin has pink, red, or bluish hues, you fall into the cool category. The perfect bridal makeup for you includes shades that complement these tones. Try blue-based reds, berries, mauves, deep plums, rosy pinks, and soft pinks for your cheeks and lips.Warm Undertones:
If your skin has yellow, peach, or golden hues, you’re a warm undertone beauty. Go for warmer shades of red, caramel, coral, peach, and golden tones — they’ll enhance your natural glow.Neutral Undertones:
Lucky you — neutrals can wear almost any color!
Not sure if you’re neutral? Here are a few quick tests:Look at the veins on your wrist in natural light. If they appear a mix of green and blue, you’re likely neutral.
Try both silver and gold jewelry — if both flatter you equally, that’s another sign.
My favorite test: hold a white fabric or shirt under your chin in natural light. If your complexion looks balanced — not too rosy or too golden — you’re a neutral!
Final Tip
Always check your makeup shades in natural light — it’s the most accurate way to see how colors truly appear on your skin.
Your wedding day is one of the most photographed days of your life, and when your makeup complements your skin tone, your natural beauty shines through effortlessly. đź’•
