My Travel Skincare Routine 🌿
As the last month of summer winds down and many of us are either going on vacation or just getting back, I wanted to share how I take care of my skin while traveling!
This year, I visited the capital of my country—Bogotá—which is known for being one of the highest capital cities in South America. We spent five days there, and it was such a beautiful experience. One moment we were in warm weather, and the next, we were bundled up in the cold—all in less than a week! Knowing what that kind of climate change could do to my skin, I came prepared. I packed a good moisturizer, sunscreen, and a light foundation for the days I wanted my skin to look a little more luminous.
When I travel, I avoid wearing too much makeup, but I always want my skin to look fresh and healthy 😊. That’s why I pack more skincare products than makeup. With my years as as a Makeup artist I’ve learned that if you don’t take care of your skin underneath, makeup won’t sit right—and that’s often what causes issues like oiliness or makeup separating throughout the day.
Here are my go-to tips for skincare while traveling:
✈️ 1. Understand Your Skin & Work With It
If your skin tends to be reactive or unpredictable, the first step is learning to understand what it needs. Whether your skin is dry, oily, or combination, try to balance it out before layering anything else on top.
❄️ 2. Cold Weather = Moisture + Protection
In Bogotá’s cooler, drier climate, my routine included:
A hydrating moisturizer
Sunscreen (yes, even in cold weather!)
Lip sunscreen to avoid chapping
A brow pencil, mascara, a tinted foundation, and a lip balm that also doubled as blush
☀️ 3. Hot Weather = Keep It Light
When we headed to the coast and into much warmer, more humid weather, I scaled things back. Most days, all I wore was:
Sunscreen
Mascara
A little blush
Lip balm
Light, breathable, and my skin could still breathe.
🌙 4. Night Routine = Skin Reset
No matter where I am, I never skip my nighttime routine. I always:
Cleanse to remove makeup, sunscreen, and buildup
Apply hyaluronic acid for hydration overnight
This helps prep my skin for whatever the next day brings—whether it’s sunshine, wind, or more travel.
Traveling can be a shock to your skin, especially when bouncing between climates, but a little planning goes a long way. Focus on hydration, sun protection, and using products your skin already loves. For me, keeping it simple but consistent is what works best!
